  • COMMUNICATIONS  

    In the Gomelskaya Oblast the communication services are provided by two state-run enterprises: the "Gomelobltelecom" State Enterprise (SE) and the "Gomeloblpochta" SE, which unite multiple individual departments operating in all the districts of the Oblast.

    Technical retooling and modernization of the telephone network allowed to integrate the Oblast communication networks into the global information universe. For these purposes the following was built: a new inter-city automated telephone switchboard, Minsk-Zhlobin-Buda-Koshelevo-Gomel-Kiev international fiber-optic communication line, and intra-Oblast ZhIobin-Rogachev and Zhiobin- Svetlogorsk fiber-optical lines. As a result of the work rulfilled, all the urban and 91.3% of rural telephone subscribers have got automatic access to the CIS countries and a series of foreign countries; certain users were awarded the right to automatically access all the countries of the world.

    For a more complete satisfaction of the demand of state bodies of management and business sector in high-quality communication services, 400 dedicated digital lines were implemented, able to provide ISDN integrated services, as well as "Centrex" and video conierence services.

    A data network with Belpack connection has been built with a total capacity of 136 ports giving access to E-mail and Internet.

    Paging and trunking services based on MPT 1327 Protocol have been launched in Gomel. The "Altaj" state-owned radiotelephone network is also under operation.

    In the sphere of mail services new types like EMS express-mail, and Republican "Express" are under development.
