    Gomel region is an area with a developed agricultural system

    There are over 1.7 million ha of land used or cultivated by agricultural enterprises and private farmers, including 1.4 million ha of land intended for agricultural use, of which arable land makes 890 thousand ha, haymaking - 270 thousand ha, pastures - 260 thousand ha, orchards - 20 thousand ha. Grain and bean species are sown at an area of 386 thousand ha, potatoes - 98 thousand ha, vegetables - 19 thousand ha, fruits and berries - 20 thousand ha.

    There are 795 thousand ha owned by collective farms of Minsk region, Soviet farms - 615 thousand ha, private farmers cultivate - 12.6 thousand ha, individuals - 197 thousand ha.

    Agricultural production is concentrated in 233 collective farms with an average staff number of 188 persons, 156 state farms with an average staff of 240 people. An average collective farm owns 2.8 thousand ha of agricultural land, including 1.6 thousand ha of arable land; an average state farm owns 3.3 thousand ha of agricultural land, including 1.9 thousand ha of arable land. An average collective farm breeds 1292 heads of livestock and 212 heads of swine; a state farms - 1298 heads of livestock and 1285 pigs.

    All categories of Gomel region's farms produce over 630 thousand tons of grain, over 1.1 million tons of potatoes, 260 thousand tons of vegetables, 33 thousand tons of fruits and berries. Agro farms annually slaughter over 110 thousand tons of livestock and poultry, produce around 0.6 thousand tons of milk and around 0.5 billion eggs.

    Gomel region raises around 630 thousand heads of livestock, including around 290 thousand cows, 470 thousand pigs, around 17 thousand sheep and goats, around 4.3 million of poultry species.
