Gomel region is an industrially developed territory with 339 industrial companies. Their annual production volume totals BLR 1508 billion in the prices of the year 2000.

Operating in Gomel region there are 91 machine-and-metalworking companies, 61 food-catering enterprises, 57 light industries, 48 wood-procession plants and paper mills, 22 construction material producers, 9 chemical and petrochemical companies, 6 ferrous metallurgy companies and a power engineering plant.

The total number of staff employed with the region's industrial companies makes around 182 thousand people, including 142 thousand of labourers.

Each year Gomel region companies produce over 1.5 million tons of steel, around 2.4 thousand metal-cutting tools, around 1 thousand of self-propelled grain- and fodder-harvesters, over 100 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers, over 1 million tons of petrol, over 1.6 million tons of diesel fuel, over 10 million sq. m of polished glass, extract over 1.8 million tons of oil.
