    Gomel region is an area rich hunting game and a well-developed hunting infrastructure. There are Vasilevichi, Zhitkovichim Kalinkovichi, Lelchitsy, Mozyr, Oktiabrskoye, Petrikov and Svetlogorsk game-preserves resting on an area of 558.9 thousand ha, including 352.2 thousand ha of forest land, 162.7 thousand ha of fields and 44 thousand ha of marshes.

    Gomel region's average game density in 2001 was 1.2 elks, 0.44 deer, 37 wild boars and 12 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 in Gomel region there were 45 fodder storages, 67 hunter's towers, 76 hunting ranges, 318 fodder stations for deer and roes, 148 feeding areas for wild boars.

    Gomel region has three hunter's houses, four more houses are currently under construction.

    Foreign tourists and hunters are encouraged to apply to Gomel region's game-preserves for hunting tours.

    The daily charge per hunter makes ˆ75, which includes accommodation in single and double rooms in hunter's houses, three meals per day, transportation, hunting assisted by an game keeper and an interpreter, trophy preparation.

    A daily charge of ˆ45 shall be paid accompanying guests, who do not take part in the hunt, for boarding and accommodation, three meals per day, local sight-seeing, interpreter's services.

    Vassilevichi game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 75.2 thousand ha, including 47 thousand ha of forest land, 25.7 thousand ha of fields and 2.5 thousand ha of marshes.

    Vassilevichi's average game density in 2001 was 2.1 elks, 4.19 wild boars and 20.97 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 in there were 3 fodder storages, 10 hunter's towers, 15 hunting ranges, 80 fodder stations for deer and roes, 30 feeding areas for wild boars.

    There is a hunter's house in Vassilevichi.

    Zhitkovichi game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 30.8 thousand ha, including 14.3 thousand ha of forest land, 5.8 thousand ha of fields and 10.7 thousand ha of marshes.

    Zhitkovichi preserve's average game density in 2001 was 0.89 elks, 3.84 wild boars and 4.79 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were 10 fodder storages, 8 hunter's towers, 76 hunting ranges, 28 fodder stations for deer and roes, 18 feeding areas for wild boars in Zhitkovichi.

    Kalinkovichi game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 44.6 thousand ha, including 27.1 thousand ha of forest land, 15.6 thousand ha of fields and 1.9 thousand ha of marshes.

    Kalinkovichi preserve's average game density in 2001 was 0.2 elks, 1.67 wild boars and 2.78 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were a fodder storage, 8 fodder stations for deer and roes, 5 feeding areas for wild boars in Kalinkovichi.

    A hunter's houses is currently under construction.

    Lelchitsy game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 204 thousand ha, including 140.7 thousand ha of forestland, 44 thousand ha of fields and 19.3 thousand ha of marshes.

    Lelchitsy preserve's average game density in 2001 was 0.7 elks, 1.48 wild boars and 3.19 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were 5 fodder storages, 8 hunter's towers, 5 hunting ranges, 12 fodder stations for deer and roes, 27 feeding areas for wild boars.

    There is a hunter's house.

    Mozyr game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 47.8 thousand ha, including 29.9 thousand ha of forest land, 14.9 thousand ha of fields and 3 thousand ha of marshes.

    Mozyr preserve's average game density in 2001 was 2.44 elks, 7.36 wild boars and 14.72 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were 3 fodder storages, 10 hunter's towers, 12 hunting ranges, 55 fodder stations for deer and roes, 19 feeding areas for wild boars.

    There is a hunter's house.

    Oktiabrskoye game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 63.6 thousand ha, including 34.4 thousand ha of forest land, 26.3 thousand ha of fields and 2.9 thousand ha of marshes.

    The preserve's average game density in 2001 was 3.73 elks, 0.44 deer, 6.49 wild boars and 25.99 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were 12 fodder storages, 12 hunter's towers, 23 hunting ranges, 70 fodder stations for deer and roes, 15 feeding areas for wild boars.

    A hunter's house is currently under construction in Oktiabrski.

    Petrikov game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 76.5 thousand ha, including 48.2 thousand ha of forest land, 25.3 thousand ha of fields and 3 thousand ha of marshes.

    Petrikov preserve's average game density in 2001 was 0.58 elks, 5.12 wild boars and 8.43 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 in Gomel region there were 5 fodder storages, 12 hunter's towers, 76 hunting ranges, 7 fodder stations for deer and roes, 18 feeding areas for wild boars.

    A hunter's house is currently under construction in Petrikov.

    Svetlogorsk game-preserve
    Resting on an area of 16.4 thousand ha, including 10.6 thousand ha of forest land, 5.1 thousand ha of fields and 0.7 thousand ha of marshes.

    Svetlogorsk preserve's average game density in 2001 was 1.6 elks, 6.77 wild boars and 9.4 roes per 1 thousand ha.

    As of January 1 2002 there were 6 fodder storages, 7 hunter's towers, 6 hunting ranges, 16 fodder stations for deer and roes, 16 feeding areas for wild boars.

    There is a hunter's house.

    POLESYE PRESERVE
    Polesye radiation and ecology preserve is the only of its kind in the world. It is located in the south of Gomel region, in the eastern part of Polesye plain within Gomel Polesye.

    The preserve was organised in 1988 on the territory which had been heavily contaminated after the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power station. It was created in order to carry out radiation and ecology monitoring, radio-biological research, to find possible ways of using the contaminated territory, where no people live and no activities go on, and to preserve the genetic fund and variety of local flora and fauna.

    The preserve occupies an area of 215.5 thousand hectares. It is a plain with water-logged lowland, various wind deposits and high watersheds.

    The territory of the preserve belongs to the basin of the river Pripyat. Its landscape is formed by water meadows with numerous armlets, former river-beds and lakes. Marsh and forest masses can be seen in the preserve. 46% of the territory is covered by woods. Conifers (48.5%), small-leaved (27.3%) and oak (5.6%) species grow in the region.

    The plant world counts about 1120 vascular plant species, including water nut and corn flag. The animals are presented by 40 mammal, 70 bird and 25 fish species. These include black stork and other animals entered in the Belarusian and the International Red Books.
