MOUNDS

The present-day territory of Klimovichi district counts 18 burial-mounds, which, as experts believe, belonged to rodimichi. About 300 burial-mounds can be found on the banks of the Ostera, Iput, Lobzhanka, Sosnovka. Most of the burial-mounds were registered by Mogilev province statistics committee in 1873.
In 1970 an expedition of Mogilev region museum headed by Mr. Kopytin discovered several mounds. In 1978 Ms. Korobushkina, who studied Klimovichi district burial-mounds, found some, which remained unregistered.

In 1892-1893, during excavations at four mounds near Kuleshovka, two - near Ivanovsk and one - near Khotovizh, experts found household utensils, ornaments, tools. These revealed the funeral rites of rodimichi: burning of corpses and later - burial. Scientists learned that burials were accompanied by sacrifice. Excavations showed that mounds on places of burial did not appear at once, but with years.
The 1990 random examination at mounds revealed numerous defects of these monuments.

BURIED TREASURES

The buried treasure of Stary Dedin found on the territory of the district is the oldest in Belarus. It was hidden in 980-985 and found in 1926. Two clay pots contained 201 coins from Antiokhia, Baghdad, Khamadan, Isphakhan, Balkh, Samarkand, Bukhara.
The treasure was kept at the Belarusian State Museum, its further fate is not known. The treasure proves that more than a thousand years ago there was a settlement in Stary Dedin.

Klimovichi buried treasure was found in 1804. It counted 1,815 bronze and silver coins - dinars of the first Roman emperors. This is the major buried treasure in Belarus. Earlier, the treasure was kept at the Court Treasury in St. Petersburg, but it has not been preserved till now.
